Exodus 39:32-40:35; Leviticus 8:1-9:10
Exodus 37:17-39:31
The Israelites used 29 talents and 730 shekels of gold, and 100 talents and 1,775 shekels of silver in the construction of their sanctuary (Exodus 38:24-25). That is 2,207 pounds of gold, and 7,594 pounds of silver. Based upon today's values, that's $19,951,280 worth of gold and $1,239,341 worth of silver! Where did these former Egyptian slaves get all that wealth? They had plundered the Egyptians when they were set free from their bondage there (Exodus 3:21-22; 12:35-36).

Up to this point, we have been reading about families that lived during what we call the "Patriarchal Age." During this period, each family worshipped God in the way they thought was best. Now, God is telling the people that they will soon stop worshipping this way (Deuteronomy 12:8-9). Once they inhabit the Promised Land, they will begin worshipping God according to His pattern.
Did you notice the punishment God required of those blaspheming His name? Cursing and blaspheming God's name is common practice today. Although our society doesn't punish these people, you can be sure that God views misuse of His name the same as He did in the day of Shelomith and her son that was stoned. This passage should also help you understand why the Jews of the first century felt it necessary to kill Jesus. They didn't believe that He was truly the Son of God, and therefore, everything that he was saying was considered to be blasphemy. According to their law, such a person must be put to death.
Exodus 19:16-20:26; Deuteronomy 5:5-10; Exodus 22:20; Exodus 23:13; Exodus 34:17; Leviticus 19:4; Leviticus 18:21; Leviticus 20:1-5; Leviticus 26:1; Deuteronomy 13:6-18; Deuteronomy 16:21-22; Deuteronomy 17:2-7; Leviticus 19:27-28; Deuteronomy 14:1-2
Today we starting reading the laws that God gave the people after they left Egypt. These laws have been arranged by category to help you see all that God said concerning each law.
